Valuable art pieces are usually kept for a long period of time, and many times poorly stored, resulting in unfortunate damage to the works, which diminishes artistic, historical, and monetary values.

An art restoration project, therefore, has been carried out as the university deemed important to preserve the values of the artworks and maintain them in a good condition for as long as possible.   The restoration has been ongoing by experts from National Museum, Department of Fine Arts.  The works that have been restored include paintings of Chulalongkorn University founders, King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) and King Vajiravudh (Rama VI), in the university main auditorium.  The paintings are over 100 years old and were painted by a German artist, Emil Groote.

Chulalongkorn University Museum sees also the importance of documenting the restoration process to educate the public about the significance of correctly restoring historical artworks.  Video Recording Project: On Preserving Artworks has, subsequently, started to show the process of restoration and maintenance and pass on the knowledge of the process to those who are interested.  Releasing the video to the public also creates awareness of values of artworks.
