Chamchuri Art Gallery

หอศิลป์จามจุรี

Dr. Kasem Suwannakul, during his presidency of Chulalongkorn University in 1973, started an initiative to collect art pieces by Thai artists, which has turned into an official project under The Centre of Art and Cultural Promotion (presently Office of Art and Culture).  The art pieces acquired under this project during the past 35 years have been installed in various buildings around the campus to promote artistic atmosphere.

The art collection of the university is highly extensive that it shows the trace of art development in Thailand.  Chamchuri Art Gallery, therefore, was established to display works from the collection to the public.  It also provides a venue for faculty members, students, and general public to exhibit their artworks.  The gallery was officially open on December 5, 2001, the birthday of King Bhumibol, who was recognized as the Great Artist of the country.
