As a result of the past King’s royal wish to educate the people, Chulalongkorn University was established as the first university in Thailand.  The dedication and hard work of the university personnel have contributed to the development of the university as a leading university that has produced graduate to serve the society for more than 100 years.  Chulalongkorn University takes pride in playing a crucial role in history of education in Thailand in the first century of the founding of the university.

In this light, the university established Chulalongkorn University Memorial hall as a place that holds the university’s historical information and the change education in the Thai society since 1988.

The works of the memorial hall is:
1. Storing historical documents as Memorial Hall
2. Circulate books related to the university as a library
3. Displaying items valuable to the university as a museum, and organizing rotating exhibitions

Chulalongkorn University Memorial Hall is open to the university community and general public to retrieve information, documents and books.

Discussion on “The Development of Chulalongkorn University towards an Intellectual Society”

The discussion was held on April 24, 2019 at Maha Chulalongkorn Building, Chulalongkorn University, in an honor of King Prachadipok (Rama VII) who, 90 years ago, graciously formed a committee to suggest a development plan for the university.   Presently, as the university has stepped into its second centennial, strengths and weaknesses ought to be discussed in order to propose strategic planning for future development. 

The discussion was well-attended by 150 people.  A former president and professor emeritus, Prof. Dr. Charas Suwanawela gave a speech on ‘Past and Future Innovation and Technology,’ and Asst. Prof. Dr. Danaya Pakotiprapha on ‘Science for Research and Development from present to future.’

The results of the discussion were presented to the university as a proposed development plan in the second centennial to:

  • Reform education, produce graduates as innovators, conduct knowledge-based research with feasible innovations as outcome, and further research that is more beneficial.
  • Promote and design educational system that allows lifelong learning, build a learning society, and open for general public to equip learners with specific and contemporary skills—language, technology, science, and diversified culture.
  • Instill in graduates an awareness of educating and helping the society.
  • Promote an ability in graduates to work as teams and accept diversity of opinions in workplace.
