Located in Art and Culture Building, Nitas-Stan, a 346 square meters (3,725 square feet) exhibition space operated by Office of Art and Culture, has held exhibitions as part of the university’s endeavor to honor Thai artists for more than 10 years by inviting nationally and internationally renown Thai artists to display their works at the space.
Nitas-Stan also holds exhibitions in conjunction with foreign embassies and organizations, namely, embassies of Italy, India, Japan, and Mexico, and Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand.
An Exhibition Honoring an Artist, Chavalit Soemprungsuk: Rest In Progress
Chavalit Soemprungsuk, 2014 National Artist in Visual Art (Painting) was the only Thai national who earned an accolade as a national artist of the Netherlands.
Chavalit was an important abstract and non-objective artist of Thailand. After 70 years of age his works have shifted from large-formed sculptures and paintings to digital arts and inkjet art prints during 2014-2019 in his Amsterdam studio. Eighty pieces of artworks from this period were displayed at Nitas-Stan as a memorial exhibition commemorating his death from COVID-19 in Amsterdam in April 2020 when he was 80 years old.
Virtual Exhibition Tour “Rest in Progress”: An Art Exhibition without Boundaries
Office of Art and Culture implemented technology in Virtual Exhibition Tour “Rest in Progress” to allow access of visitors from around the world, resulting in interaction and ensuing promotion of exchange of knowledge in the art with no physical boundaries. Chavalit Soemprungsuk was a testimony of the power of creativity and lifelong learning. He continued to dedicate to creating artworks and learn new things well into his senior years. His life was inspirational to artists in all generations, and a proof that age is not a limitation of creativity and learning new technologies. He also worked hard to promote, develop, and drive Thai art scene to the international realm.
