Chulalongkorn University is the first university in Thailand that dates back over 100 years ago. Its history and body of knowledge having taken place at the university have been documented and archived in forms of photograph, negative films, books, audio-visual media, and other chronicles that show the development of higher education in Thailand from past to present.
This trace of development is valuable, not only to the university, but also the country. Therefore, as the collection of historical documents and media continues to expand, Chula Memorial Hall has implemented a preservative database and workflow system for its staff to increase efficiency in retrieving and circulating the chronicles to alumni, university community, faculties, and institutes in and outside the university. Information and every form of documentation are preserved, circulate, archived, and digitized in compliance with the standards set forth by The National Archives of Thailand, and are sustainable for future use.
The implementation of the preservative database and workflow system is taking place over the course of three years (2021-2023). During the first phase, which has recently completed, studies were conducted, database software was developed and tested on entering data and digitizing the original media. In the upcoming second phase, search system will be developed for on-site and online internal search and retrieval. Search and retrieval protocol for public will also be discussed.
